“Really? That’s awesome man!” He said and literally bit off half the sandwich in one go. “I’ve never been outta the US but I hope to someday.” He said and took another bite. “Are you excited for the show tomorrow?”

“I could take you to China one day! There is much of America I am still to see also. I first come here and of course I only stay here.” he explained as he watched Finn take animalistic bites of the sandwich. “I am very excited! It will be my first show!” Mike was practically swaying in his seat in happiness of his very first show. He didn’t know what to expect apart from the fact that there will be an audience, an audience much like the audience he received back at home, the only thing that wasn’t new to him.

“That’s cool, you’ll be fantastic.” Finn said firmly and felt his eyes get heavy with fatigue. “Dude, I don’t want to be a jerk but I’m so physically exhausted. I’m gonna hit the hay for a little while. I’ll see you at the show though!” He was excited for tonight, to see the new act and watch the others. He was going to change in a few days and would get his moment in the spotlight, but it was always exciting to watch his friends while he sat in the cage he used for his transformation.

Finn smiled and thanked him while quickly whipping up two ham sandwiches with extra ham on his. He handed the sandwich to Mike and sat down. Finn wasn’t a very talkative person so he just ate silently. If there was an uncomfortable air around them he couldn’t tell. Munching thoughtfully, he finally said through a mouthful of ham, “So where’re you from?”

Mike took the sandwich from Finn and took a large bite from it. He had forgotten how hungry he was whilst he was busy interacting with all his new carnival-mates. He ate the sandwich happily and didn’t mind the silence so much, he had done a lot of talking today. When Finn finally spoke again his eyes lit up, “I am from China! It is a very big country and very beautiful.”

Finn liked running. Usually after rehearsal he’d still have adrenaline left over and would run around the campsite, as well as through the woods. Occasionally he would run farther. He never had any intention of leaving the camp; he just wanted to see how far he could go. Some days he went five miles, other days he went ten. He began noticing that he would go farther and farther and felt this tight coil in his stomach whenever he approached the camp afterwords. It took him awhile to figure out what was going on but after running to library and sitting there for several hours, pouring over folklore and ancient books about the wolf people, he finally figured it out. It was time for him to pick a mate.

Oh god.

“Probably just gonna make a sandwich.” He said with a shrug and opened the door, letting his arm hang back to hold it open for Mike.

“Do you want one?” He asked. His camper was tiny but organized. Finn liked things in their place. This camper was the one thing he had control over.

“Yes, thank you.” he said courteously, glancing at the plain yet pristinely clean interior of the trailer. “You appear to be a very clean person.”

He surveyed the surfaces and the detailing of the patterns of the wood, touching them with his fingertips. “This is very nice home.” he put simply.

Finn wasn’t used to attention. He glanced around anxiously. “I’m telling ya now, I won’t be much company but feel free to join me. I’m going to get some late breakfast at my camper.” He said and began walking back in the direction of his tiny home.

“I can help you if you would like to.” Mike replied, standing up and walking with Finn. His camper was more plain than the others, this told something to Mike. Finn already seemed like a quiet person in himself but Mike was determined to be friends with him, even if he would have to drag it out of Finn.

“It’s uncomfortable, but it doesn’t hurt.” He shook his hand. “You just feel like you’re being pulled at from every direction, but it’s more nagging than painful.” He said and the back of his knees itched and tingled because of the thought. Just thinking about transforming made him nervous.

“I’d love to dude, really, but I feel sick. It’s been a rough morning. I’ll catch you at rehearsal though, okay?”

“Oh I see…” Mike said in revelation, “Things are not always as they seem, is that what the English say?” He watched on as the stocky guy before him shifted a little.

“Oh it is fine!” he said in a friendly tone. “I can sit with you?” he asked with a smile, hoping to get to know this person a little bit more, after all he was the first werewolf Mike had ever met.

“Yup, hair and teeth, the whole thing.” Finn grinned. It wasn’t often he enjoyed having his power, the entertainment in it was for other people, but Mike’s genuine smile made him happy. “What about you?”

“Wow…” Mike muttered to himself. In all the fantasy storybooks he’d read he was ready to admit that the werewolf was his favourite creature. “Is it hurt like I read it does?” he asked as tactfully as he could manage.

“I am acrobat and contortionist!” Mike said with such a sense of pride, “I could show you if you want!” he began getting giddy at the prospect of showing off his talent…yet again.

Finn shook his hand hesitantly. “I, um, change. I’m the resident wolfman.” He replied. “What about you? Are you new?” He asked, never having seen Mike before. Maybe Mike had been around for longer. With the way Finn cloistered himself, it wouldn’t be a big surprise if Mike had been here for a few weeks and Finn simply hadn’t known.

“You mean like a werewolf?” Mike’s eyes lit up in recognition of the (so he thought) mythical creature from English children stories he used to read to practice his English. “That is very cool!” he said, using a slang word with good effect. “I am very new. I came to the McKinley carnival just yesterday.” he explained with great enthusiasm for this strange yet wonderful friend he was making.

“Yup, hair and teeth, the whole thing.” Finn grinned. It wasn’t often he enjoyed having his power, the entertainment in it was for other people, but Mike’s genuine smile made him happy. “What about you?”

Finn looked up quickly at the voice. He didn’t know the man. “Who are you?” He asked quickly before realizing he had already identified himself as Mike Chang. “Oh, sorry, hey.” He continued and got to his feet. “I’m uh…Finn Hudson.” He introduced himself and scratched the back of his head awkwardly. He didn’t really know how to talk to people, a product of being alone for most of his life.

Mike reached out one friendly hand for a handshake. He was ready to embrace the eccentricities of McKinley and that meant being friendly to whoever he met. “Why are you all by yourself? Should you not be out there in this world of togetherness and family?” Mike asked the timid looking male, gesturing as he mentioned the carnivale. “What talent do you have here?” he asked curiously with a warm smile.

Finn shook his hand hesitantly. “I, um, change. I’m the resident wolfman.” He replied. “What about you? Are you new?” He asked, never having seen Mike before. Maybe Mike had been around for longer. As Mike continued his exploration of the McKinley Bros. grounds he found himself among caravans in a different area to his own. Once again the trailers all differed in size and shape. He smiled to himself at the thought of the number of new friends he could potentially make and decided his adventure to America would be a good one.

Just when he was about to leave he heard a whimpering, whining noise from nearby. His brow furrowed in confusion, it sounded like a dog and yet it wasn’t dog-like enough. He walked towards the source of the noise and discovered a stocky brunette sat by himself with his arms wrapped around his knees. “Hello there,” he said cheerfully with his Chinese twang “I am Mike Chang, what is your name?”

Finn looked up quickly at the voice.
